What is it?
Majority of mainstream teeth-whitening products, including professional dental methods, contain peroxide. Although peroxide is proven to bleach the surface of the tooth, it also has a track record of harming long-term oral health.
What can it cause?
Dentin allergies, oral mucosa (damaging the membrane lining in the mouth), irritation, hypersensitivity, burning sensations and irreversible damage to enamel. It has such a strong impact on the longevity of enamel, that the EU Council Directive have limited the amount of hydrogen peroxide in over-the-counter dental products. Peroxide containing products may remove superficial stains, but they also are proven to damage the health of enamel.
